Best Note-Taking Apps According to AI Engines — 2026 Ranking

Notion and Obsidian: 6/6. Reflect, Mem, Capacities: all 0/6. We tested 7 note-taking apps across 6 AI engines.

Which note-taking apps do AI engines recommend?

We asked ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, and Mistral: "What's the best note-taking app for productivity?" The results show a stark divide between established apps and the next generation.

The Full Ranking

  • Notion — 6/6 (recommended by all engines)
  • Obsidian — 6/6 (recommended by all engines)
  • Logseq — 2/6 (not mentioned by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, DeepSeek)
  • Roam Research — 2/6 (not mentioned by Perplexity, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral)
  • Reflect — 0/6 (invisible to all engines)
  • Mem — 0/6 (invisible to all engines)
  • Capacities — 0/6 (invisible to all engines)

Notion and Obsidian Dominate

Both Notion and Obsidian achieve perfect 6/6 scores. Every AI engine recommends them. This makes sense — both have massive communities, extensive plugin ecosystems, and deep content footprints across blogs, YouTube, and forums.

The PKM Pioneers Are Fading

Logseq (2/6) and Roam Research (2/6) — both pioneers of the 'tools for thought' movement — have limited AI visibility. Despite being influential in shaping how people think about note-taking, they haven't built the broad web presence needed for AI recommendation.

The New Wave Is Invisible

**Reflect, Mem, and Capacities all score 0/6. **These are some of the most innovative note-taking apps being built right now, with AI-native features and thoughtful design — but AI engines have no idea they exist.

This is particularly ironic for Mem, which brands itself as an AI-powered note-taking tool. The tool that uses AI internally is invisible to AI externally.

The Content Moat

Notion and Obsidian have built massive content moats — thousands of blog posts, YouTube tutorials, template galleries, and community forums. This content is what AI engines learn from. Newer apps, no matter how innovative their features, can't compete without building a similar content layer.

What Can Newer Apps Do?

Focus on building comparison content, earning reviews on major platforms, creating migration guides from Notion/Obsidian, and generating community content. The gap is about web presence, not product quality.

Rankings and citations in this post are based on EurekaNav's internal audit dataset (4 published deep teardowns: Fireflies.ai, Linear, Otter.ai, Notta.ai — all available at /case-studies) plus broader audit work across additional SaaS targets. Sample sizes are small. Where we cite specific patterns, they are qualitative observations from a limited sample, not measured industry-wide statistics.

Each audit queries 6 AI engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral) with high-intent buying prompts and reads every engine response. Methodology details: eurekanav.com/methodology.

AI engine outputs are non-deterministic. The same prompt can return different answers across sessions and time. Specific rankings or claims in this post reflect what we observed at the time of audit, not a permanent state. Re-audit dates and any material updates are reflected in this post's visible last-updated tag.
